+1 Nico, I agree entirely about expanding institutional support for extracurricular, informal learning, obviously, and I ‘m impressed to hear it stated so succinctly! Well spoken.
To one of Geraldine’s points, in which she pointed out that if we add these skills to the curriculum there will be great dissent about which other hours we cut? Personally, and this is just an opinion, I think undergraduate curricula should be allowed to get harder and heavier. The internet makes learning more efficient and college is less and less of a full time job. I think the education community should be less hesitant to add useful stuff to the generic curriculum and become comfortable with expecting more of students and not cutting a thing. Students will work hard, but they’ll adapt soon enough.
Anyway, well done, all of you, I’m excited about the future of education in your wise hands!
